# Rate-card pricing

> Use admin-configured rates from the Business API — quote and place without hardcoding prices.

Custom Bike / Bus·Van / Truck rates are set up by **RUN admin** after agreement with your business. The Business API does **not** negotiate or edit those rates.

Once RUN has enabled your rate cards, your integration:

1. Reads the options already on your account (`GET /business/rate-cards`)
2. Quotes and places with `vehicle_type` / `option_id` / `weight`

## Field model

| Field | Role |
| - | - |
| `item_name` | Parcel only (for example “shoes”) — not used for pricing |
| `vehicle_type` | `bike`, `bus_van`, or `truck` |
| `weight` | Billable kg; for **bike** also selects the weight band |
| `option_id` | From [Rate cards](/orders/rate-cards); required for **bus\_van** / **truck**; omit for bike |

Do not hardcode prices or option IDs. When RUN updates your card, keep using the catalog + quote endpoints.

## Flow

1. `GET /business/rate-cards` — cache `vehicle_type` and `options[].id` (read-only)
2. `POST /business/order/cost` — same `vehicle_type`, `option_id` (if needed), `weight`, addresses
3. `POST /business/order` — same pricing fields on each shipment

## When to omit `vehicle_type`

If you omit `vehicle_type`, Run quotes with **distance** pricing (km + weight platform rates). Prefer setting `vehicle_type` when RUN has enabled a rate card for your account.
