# Shipment statuses

> Order lifecycle statuses and the webhook events that report them.

Orders expose a lifecycle `status`. Webhooks report the same values.

| Status | Meaning | Typical webhook |
| - | - | - |
| `PENDING` | Created, awaiting rider | `shipment.created` |
| `ASSIGNED` | Offered / assigned (`assigned: true`; stored status stays `PENDING` until accept) | `shipment.assigned` |
| `ACCEPTED` | Rider accepted | `shipment.accepted` |
| `START_TRIP`, `HEADING_TO_PICKUP`, `ARRIVED_AT_PICKUP` | En route to pickup | `shipment.status_changed` |
| `PICKED_UP` | Parcel collected | `shipment.picked_up` |
| `TRANSIT`, `HEADING_TO_DELIVERY` | In transit / out for delivery | `shipment.in_transit` / `shipment.out_for_delivery` |
| `DELIVERED` | Completed | `shipment.delivered` |
| `CANCELLED` | Cancelled | `shipment.cancelled` |

You can cancel via the Business API only while status is `PENDING`, `ASSIGNED`, `ACCEPTED`, or `START_TRIP`. See [Cancel order](/orders/cancel-order).

Use `status`, `previous_status`, and `occurred_at` from webhook payloads when correlating updates. See [Webhooks](/webhooks/overview#event-types).

`ASSIGNED` is a presented status. When an admin sends a trip to a rider, the order keeps stored status `PENDING` with `assigned: true`. Admin, business, and webhook payloads still show `ASSIGNED` until the rider accepts.
